Ocean Power Technologies Inc (NYSE-A:OPTT) said on Wednesday it has appointed retired US Navy Captain Jason Weed as its new senior vice president of commercial sales.
Weed, who brings over 15 years of executive-level experience in maritime and technology organizations, most recently served as a senior business developer at Leidos' Maritime Systems Division.
He spent 34 years in the Navy, holding key leadership roles including commanding officer of the USS New Hampshire and commodore of the Navy’s first Uncrewed Undersea Vehicle Squadron (UUVRON ONE).
“We are thrilled to welcome Jason Weed to the OPT senior management team,” said Philipp Stratmann, President and CEO of Ocean Power Technologies. “His exceptional defense leadership experience and deep understanding of advanced maritime operations will be invaluable as we expand our presence in the defense and security market.”
Weed succeeds Matt Burdyny, who has departed the company to pursue a new opportunity.
To support his appointment, OPT said it granted Weed an inducement equity award under the company's Employment Inducement Incentive Award Plan. The package includes 500,000 restricted stock units vesting over two years, and 150,000 performance-based units, also over two years.
